Friday 30 October 2026 | 4:30–9:30 pm | Toukley Village Green
Free event. Tickets are essential.
Join Toukley Neighbourhood Centre for a free evening of music, dance and remembrance as we celebrate El Día de los Muertos – Day of the Dead – on the Toukley Village Green.
Día de los Muertos is a Mexican tradition that celebrates the lives of loved ones who have passed. Families build colourful altars, called ofrendas, decorated with photos, marigolds and favourite things, and come together to share food, music and stories. It's a joyful time of remembering, and everyone is welcome.
What's on
- Official opening to welcome the community and begin the celebrations
- Victor Valdez Mariachi performing throughout the evening
- Live music from local musicians Kieron and Jake
- Professional Mexican dancers. Watch them perform, then join in.
- Piñata for the children to enjoy
- Open-air cinema from 7:30 pm. Settle in on bean bags on the green, grab some free popcorn and watch Pixar's Coco for the rest of the night.
Community altars
A special community altar will be set up for the night, and you're invited to add to it. If you'd like to honour someone you love, bring a photo or a keepsake to place on the altar for the evening.
There will also be a pets altar to remember our special furry friends.
Free activity stations
- Face painting. Free for anyone who'd like their face painted.
- Memory frames. Decorate a frame, then draw a picture of your loved one, or bring a photo on your phone and we'll print it for you on the spot. Place your frame on the altar for the night, and take it home at the end if you wish.
- Calaverita keyrings and magnets. Decorate your own colourful sugar-skull keepsake.
- Letters to the Stars. Write and decorate a card for someone you're thinking of.
Food and drink
The Mexicoast food truck will be on site with chicken and beef nachos, guac and chips, and soft drinks available to buy.
What to bring
- A photo or keepsake of a loved one or pet for the altars (optional)
- A photo on your phone if you'd like one printed for your memory frame
