No interest loans (NILs)

No interest, no fees, no charges, ever

How much can I borrow? What can I use a NILs loan for?


Borrow up to $2000 for essential goods and services including:

  • Household items like appliances, whitegoods & furniture
  • Car repairs & registration
  • Medical and dental expenses
  • Technology like a phone or laptop
  • Employment expenses like licenses or equipment
  • Rental bonds, but only after you have submitted a Rentstart Bond Loan through Family & Community Services (click here).


No Interest Loans cannot be used to purchase cars or motorcycles. Good Shepherd offers another product called No Interest Loans for Vehicles and you can find more information on this here.

 

NILs in NOT a Cash Loan, we pay direct to the supplier.


What do I need to apply?


When you apply, you’ll need to provide

  • 100 points of ID (such as a driver’s license, passport, Medicare card, Centrelink card
  • Details about your financial situation (bank statements and/or banking details, payslips and/or current Centrelink statement, plus an estimate of your regular expenses)
  • Information on existing debts (such as buy now pay later, payday loans or rent-to-buy)
  • A quote or invoice that shows: the date, a description of the item/service, the supplier’s details (business name, ABN, address, phone or email), banking or payment details, and the payment amount with delivery included.


When applying for a No Interest Loan up to $2000, there are NO credit checks. We’ll look at your income and expenses, the total loan amount, and your repayment timeframe (up to 24 months), and work with you to see if the loan is affordable. We don’t judge you on your history.

Toukley Neighbourhood Limited NILS Services

Due to limited capacity, Toukley Neighbourhood Centre is currently unable to process NILS applications directly. Our NILS phone line and email inbox will continue to be monitored. We will address all enquiries and refer them to the appropriate provider to support your needs.


 However, you can still access NILS support through the following accredited providers:

You may be eligible for a NILs loan if you:

  • Hold a Health Care Card or Pension Card, or
  • Earn less than $70,000 gross annual income as a single person, or
  • Earn less than $100,000 gross annual income as a couple or with dependents,
  • Have lived in your premises for more then 3 months, and
  • Can demonstrate the capacity to repay the loan.


Eligibility criteria are designed to ensure loans are provided to those who can manage repayments without financial  pressure and follow the responsible

lending guidelines.

How long will it take?

This can depend on how long it takes you to send through your supporting documents, and the number of applications we have to process.


We will schedule your interview after we receive both your online application and your emailed supporting documents.

To get your loan as soon as possible, make sure you provide the complete documentation set.

Fill out and submit the NILs application form. This information helps us to assess your eligibility.


Click on the button to complete and submit the form.


Then, go to step 2 and provide your supporting documentation.

Email the following documentation to nils@tnc.org.au, making sure you provide your name and contact number. We must receive all these documents before the loan can be processed and submitted for assessment.


  • Photo id, Centrelink card and Medicare card
  • Latest detailed Centrelink statement showing breakdown of any deductions 
  • 90-day transaction  statement (can not be more than 2 weeks old) for all your bank accounts
  • Rental ledger showing address and amount paid
  • If boarding or homeless, provide a statutory declaration 
  • Electricity, gas, water, telephone bills unless paying from Centrelink or bank 
  • If working, your last 4 payslips 
  • Proof of any other income you may receive including child support payments
  • Afterpay statements, if any 
  • If you have any other loans, please provide statements 
  • Quote from a reputable/registered provider with an ABN number. Payment details for the supplier must be printed on quotes/invoice including BSB, account name and account number.
  • If applying for CTP or car repairs, registration papers are needed and the car must be registered in NSW
