If you want to help, please go to GIVIT.org.au to find out exactly what’s needed. GIVIT has been contracted by the NSW Government to manage donations of essential goods and services for people impacted by disasters. GIVIT will ensure people get exactly what they need, when they need it.

Flood Preparedness

Bushfire Preparedness

Bushfire Preparedness

Flooding can happen quickly and unexpectedly. Being prepared can help reduce risks and ensure your safety.

Know Your Risk

  • Flooding can be caused by heavy rain, swollen rivers, or coastal storms.
  • Low-lying areas and roads can become dangerous flood zones—know if your home is at risk.
  • Flash flooding can happen with little warning—never drive or walk through floodwaters.

Before a Flood

  • ✔ Know your flood risk – Check local flood maps (NSW SES Flood Advice)
  • ✔ Prepare an emergency kit – Include important documents, medications, food, water, and a torch
  • ✔ Have a plan – Know where you’ll go if you need to evacuate
  • ✔ Stay informed – Listen to weather warnings and emergency updates

During a Flood

  • ⚠ NEVER drive, walk, or swim through floodwaters – It takes just 15cm of moving waterto sweep you off your feet
  • ⚠ If floodwaters are rising, move to higher ground immediately
  •  ⚠ Follow evacuation orders from NSW SES and emergency services

After a Flood

  • 🔹Check for road closures before travelling (Live Traffic NSW)
  • 🔹 Do not enter flood-damaged buildings until they have been declared safe
  • 🔹Clean-up safely – wear protective clothing and be aware of contamination risks

Bushfire Preparedness

Bushfire Preparedness

Bushfires are a real threat to our region, especially during the summer months.

Know Your Risk

  • Bushfires can spread fast and become uncontrollable within minutes
  • Homes near bushland, grassland, or national parks are most at risk
  • Embersc an travel kilometres ahead of a fire, igniting new fires

Before a Bushfire

  • ✔ Know your Bushfire Alert Level (RFS Bushfire Danger Ratings)
  • ✔ Prepare a bushfire survival plan – Decide when to leave and where to go
  • ✔ Create a defendable space – Clear dry leaves, branches, and flammable materials around your home
  • ✔ Prepare an emergency kit – Include face masks, protective clothing, water, and important documents
  • ✔ Monitor conditions – Stay updated on fire warnings and total fire bans

During a Bushfire

  • ⚠ If a fire is nearby, LEAVE EARLY – Don’t wait for an official warning
  • ⚠ Stay alert – Follow instructions from NSW RFS and emergency services
  • ⚠ Shelter in a safe place if you cannot leave – Stay low to avoid smoke inhalation

After a Bushfire

  • 🔹 Be aware of hidden dangers such as falling trees, live powerlines, and embers
  • 🔹 Do not return home until authorities declare it safe
  • 🔹If your home is damaged, contact support services for assistance
